About Our Parish

Church Doors Yesterday

Holy Trinity is a parish of the Orthodox Church in America, under the Diocese of the South. The parish was organized under the guidance of the late Fr George A Gladky, and was chartered in August, 1964, in the city of St Petersburg, FL. The original Church building was a converted Baptist Church which was purchased in 1966 and located in a residential area of the city. At that time several of the founding members lived within walking distance of the church. Although the original members of the parish were composed of people of Slavic ancestry and retired individuals, the parish quickly grew to include various age groups and a few converts. The liturgical language was Church Slavonic and English.

By the '80's, the parish makeup had changed and the faithful included people from various "ethnic" Orthodox backgrounds and many converts were among the members. They soon realized a change was needed to bring new life and spirit to what was now one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of the South.

In April of '95, at a special meeting of the parish, it was decided that a move was necessary. By this time more than half the membership lived further up in what is referred to as "North-County" and had to drive over 25 minutes to Church. A new location was sighted and purchased in May 1996. The new location is a 2.36 acre site with an existing large, house structure, which served as the Chapel, Fellowship room, Offices, a Bookstore, Music room, large swimming pool (which served for the baptism of two adults), and ample parking space. There is a newly widened, six lane State Road directly in front of the Church, which makes the church very visible and easy to get to from any place in the Tampa Bay area. We are just 15 minutes from St Pete/Clearwater Airport and 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport. We are just a short drive from the Gulf of Mexico.

Today

In July of 2007 ground was broken for the Church building which was completed in February. The door opening was held on February 16, 2008 and the Dedication on October 10, 2008. Among our members is a very gifted iconographer, Elias Damianakis, who will be doing the beautification of the interior of the Church. In the last few months our numbers have grown from just a few to a Sunday attendance at times of 50 or more. Overnight the average age went from 70-45. We now have several young families and children of all ages.

As of April 2009, Fr Kyrill Williams is the new priest of Holy Trinity. He and Matushka Tamra moved from the St Tikhon's seminary community in Pennsylvania to join the parish community and look forward to growing the Holy Trinity family for many years to come.

Publications

Each month a Newsletter is published giving the weekly schedule and announcing various activities in the parish community. A monthly Liturgical and Activities calendar is published together with a monthly "Apostolic Bulletin" which covers a wide variety of information about Orthodox Christianity.
